A project from a Mayo school has been highly commended at the BT Young Scientist & Technology Exhibition.

St Mary’s Secondary School Ballina students Leah Hannon and Lauren Tuffy picked up the accolade for their project to identify and novel and wildlife supporting use of seafood waste in coastal protection against destructive ocean waves.

They were highly commended in the Biological and Ecological category.

The overall winner of the competition was 17-year-old Adam Kelly, a student from Skerries Community College.
