Roscommon native Dr John Killeen has been re-appointed as Chairperson of the Marine Institute for another 5-year term.
An engineer by profession, Dr Killeen was President of Engineers Ireland from 1995 to 1996 and a retired managing director of Cold Chon Galway Ltd.
In 2009 he was chairman of the Volvo Ocean Race in Galway and three years later was President of the Volvo Ocean Race finale and festival which broke all attendance records for a sporting event in Irelnad.
He became an Honorary Freeman of Galway City in 2012, and in 2014 he was appointed Chaiperson of the Marine Institute.
Minister Michael Creed has today reappointed John Killeen for another five year term with immediate effect, and says he has the experience and knowledge to continue to lead the Board of the Marine Institute and ensure it has the skills to deliver on its key role as the national agency for marine research, technology, development and innovation.
