New crime figures show the number of recorded robberies has jumped by almost 23 per cent nationally, with a higher increase in Mayo.
The CSO statistics published today indicate rising crime rates across most categories, in the three months to the end of September.
Robbery showed the largest increase - up by over 22%, while in the Mayo Garda division, there were 4 robberies reported in the third quarter of this year - compared to none in the same period last year.
Nationally, the number of sexual offences reported to Gardaí increased by nearly 12 per cent, while organised crime offences rose by 10 per cent.
However, there were 12 hundred fewer burglaries in July, August and September, compared to the previous quarter.
In the Mayo Garda Division, there were 49 burglaries recorded between July and September - down from 62 in the same period last year.
