Over €1.9 million euro in Government funding has been allocated for Ireland West Airport Knock.

It's part of a €3.7 million package of grant aid announced by the Transport Minister for regional airports in Knock, Kerry and Donegal.

The funding of one million, 916 thousand euro for Ireland West Airport will contribute towards operational costs such as traffic control, fire, safety and security.

CEO of Ireland West Airport Knock Joe Gilmore has welcomed the funding, which comes as the airport recorded its busiest year ever in 2018, with passenger numbers set to exceed 770,000.

A number of major projects have also been completed at the Mayo airport this year, including the development of a new Visitor Discovery Centre which was officially opened last week.
