Gardai in Ballina are appealing for witnesses after an assault and robbery of an elderly man in the town on Friday evening last.

According to the Western People, the man, aged in his 70s, was accosted by two women and a man in the Market Square carpark, near Tesco, in the town, shortly after 5pm on Friday evening.

The elderly man had left Tesco, when he was assaulted in the car park, and had a small sum of cash stolen. He was knocked to the ground and was left shaken by the ordeal.

The suspected attackers are described as two women dressed in headscarves and long skirts, and a man wearing black trousers and a white jacket.

It was a busy time of evening in Ballina and gardai are keen to speak to anyone who may have noticed the attack or anything suspicious in the area.

A man came to the elderly man’s assistance on Friday evening,  and gardai are also anxious to speak to that man.
