Almost 3 million euro in total has been allocated to local enterprises in Leitrim and Sligo under the Regional Enterprise Development Fund. The funding allocations have been announced by Heather Humphreys, Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation.

Just under a million euro has been allocated to Leitrim Food Enterprise Zone in Drumshanbo to drive clustering and growth of food companies in Counties Leitrim, Sligo, Cavan and Donegal. According to Fine Gael Sentaor Frank Feighin the enterprise zone will act as a premium location magnet for new food start-ups and relocating food businesses and is set to create 137 new jobs.

Sligo County Enterprise Fund is to receive just under 2 million euro for the development of The Strand Campus in Strandhill which will be the leading location in the North West Region for Entrepreneurs in digital gaming and associated tech sectors. The centre will provide holistic support for start‐up, innovation and growth. 

 Project partners for The Strand Campus include Sligo Co Council, Sligo Local Enterprise Office, Sligo Institute of Technology, Northern & Western Regional Assembly, Galway/Mayo IT and Letterkenny IT, Ballina and Carrick-on-Shannon Chambers of Commerce, Leitrim County Council and The Hive Carrick-on-Shannon and the Western Development Commission (WDC).

 Senator Feighin told Midwest News that the projects funded today are at the cutting edge of innovation. He is confident that they have the potential to make a real and lasting impact on enterprise development at county, regional and national level.
