Galway City Council has closed the Salthill promenade, as a status orange wind warning is now in place for Galway and 5 other counties in the south.
The council has taken the decision to close the prom until after lunch, due to high winds and high tides.
Severe winds gusting up to 130 kilometres per hour are expected in Galway, as Storm Diana passes over Ireland.
A Yellow Wind Warning is in operation for the rest of the country until 6pm this evening.
Met Eireann says gale force winds associated with Storm Diana will see south to southwest winds gusting to 110 km/h.
As a result a number of flights are either cancelled or delayed at Dublin and Cork over the course of the day.
