Visiting restrictions are in place at Mayo University Hospital, as some patients in B Ward are displaying symptoms of the Norovirus winter vomiting bug.

Hospital management has put control measures in place to reduce the risk of the virus spreading to other areas in the hospital.

Anyone with recent symptoms of the vomiting bug or who has had contact with others who have these symptoms should not visit the hospital, to avoid spreading the virus.

Arrangements will be made for family members of critically ill patients to visit - and this should be arranged through the nurse in charge of the ward before arriving at the hospital.

Those visiting are asked to use alcohol gel on their hands before and after visiting a relative, and to limit their movement throughout the hospital.

Meanwhile, patients presenting to Myo University Hospital's Emergency Department, Outpatient Dept or Medical Assessment Unit must advise staff if they've had symptoms of diarrhoea or vomiting, or if a close family member is unwell with these symptoms.
