Work has been suspended on the new €6 million Charlestown sewerage scheme until January to assist traffic flow through the town.

Construction work is underway on a new sewerage treatment plant for the town, but Irish Water and Mayo Co Co have agreed to postpone the work until the New Year, so as not to cause disruption for local businesses over the festive season.

Charlestown-based Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Murray has welcomed the decision.
