A permanent Head of Campus is to be appointed shortly at GMIT Mayo.
That's according to Dr Richard Thorn, who's acting as Interim Head of Campus, and who believes the Castlebar college will be thriving in the next 3 to 4 years, once a new academic plan is approved and implemented.
He says this will see the Castlebar campus of GMIT focusing more on Level 8 & 9 post-graduate courses, with the loss of some Level 6 courses, and also an emphasis on life-long learning, and part-time flexible courses for people working fulltime.
Last year, a Working Group was set up to consider the challenges facing the Mayo GMIT, and its report - issued in October 2017 - included 33 recommendations.
The first recommendation was the appointment of a permanent Head of Campus at Vice-President level, and Dr Richard Thorn told Midwest News that the appointment will be announced shortly - possible before the end of the year.
