A Mayo Councillor is calling on the local authority to provide the funding to ensure all fire appliances in the county have a defibrillator.

Sinn Fein Councillor Gerry Murray says he attended a recent function in Charlestown, where the Irish Heart Foundation was critical of Mayo County Council for being one of the few local authorities not to have defibrillators available to fire crews when dealing with emergency situations, such as road collisions.

Councillor Murray intends to put a motion down for the December meeting of Mayo County Council, calling on the council executive to provide the funding for defibrillators on all fire appliances, and says that, even if one life is saved, it would be worth the investment.
