€50,000 in funding has been allocated for the digitization of a unique archive based in the Gaeltacht area of north Mayo. The private, extensive collection of Pap Murphy and his wife Catherine, of Cartron, Clogher , Belmullet  has received the funding from Minister Michael Ring’s dept of Community and Rural Affairs.

Pap and Catherine have a museum called “Turas Siar” in Clogher and he has spent his life collecting folklore, placenames, and taling and recording the people of the region.

Local Fine Gael Councillor Gerry Coyle says Pap’s contribution to the region and to the country is enormous and he believes the digitization of his collection is comparable yet different from the Jackie Clarke collection in Ballina.
