Ryanair has announced a new twice-weekly service between Ireland West Airport Knock and Cologne in Germany.

The service will operate from the 1st June next year to the end of August, with direct flights every Tuesday and Saturday.

Cologne is Germany's fourth largest city, just an hour's train journey from Frankfurt.

The new service will be a major boost for tourism in the West & Northwest regions of Ireland, according to Joe Gilmore, managing director of Ireland West Airport Knock.

He says a record number of Germans visited Ireland this year, with 50% visiting the West & Northwest during their stay.
