A large number of local residents attended a public meeting in Westport last night, amid concerns over community involvement in, and access to, the Quay Community Centre.
Three years ago, the Community Centre's Voluntary management Committee was disbanded by Mayo County Council, and the council now runs the centre, which offers a range of classes and services, as well as community-led activities.
However, locals claim the facility is not being made available to the community for which it was built, which they say is unacceptable.
Their concerns were aired at a public meeting in Westport last night, and a spokesperson for the community groupt told Midwest News they were disappointed there was no representative present from Mayo County Council.
Meanwhile, Mayo County Council says they were approached by representatives of an unnamed group seeking a meeting to discuss the activities at the Quay Community Centre.
A spokesperson has told Midwest News that the council has responded to the group and offered to meet at a date and time of their convenience - the council is still awaiting a response.
