The Budget proposal to double the betting tax will cost over 200 jobs in the West of Ireland.

That's according to a study by the Irish Bookmakers Association, which estimates that 17 bookmakers shops will close permanently in Galway, eight will close in Mayo, four in Roscommon and four also in Sligo.

The Association claims 48 jobs will be lost in Co Mayo as a result of doubling the betting tax from 1% to 2%, with 100 jobs losses in Galway, and 22 in both Sligo and Roscommon.
