The National Emergency Coordination Group is meeting this afternoon to prepare for the arrival of Storm Callum.
Gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour are expected as the storm makes its way across the country later tonight.
Met Éireann has issued a status Orange warning for 13 counties, and is warning of heavy rain and high tides - with a risk of coastal flooding and damage in parts.
Storm Callum is expected to make landfall in Cork and Kerry at around 10pm.
Western counties including Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Galway and Clare, and the counties along the Eastern seaboard will be affected from midnight into the early hours of the morning.
