Mayo County Council has this evening issued a level 3 alert for flooding in Crossmolina, due to the current weather conditions and the high water levels in the River Deel.
The local community has been notified, and the Crossmolina Fllod Action Plan is now in operation.
A spokesperson for the council says the situation will be monitored closely over the coming hours.
The public are asked to be vigilant when driving in the area, and to exercise caution.
Meanwhile, Mayo County Council has confirmed that the R312 road between Castlebar and Bangor remains closed, as sections of the road are still impassable due to flooding.
Motorists should divert onto the N59 at Bangor for either Newport or Crossmolina direction.
The council say the situation is being closely monitored, while motorists should beware of floods at other locations in the Beltra to Crossmolina area, so any unnecessary journeys should be avoided.
