A Planning decision is expected today in respect of an application by Portwest Limited for the construction of a €10 million corporate headquarters at Westport Quay.

The Connaught Telegraph is reporting that councillors who are members of West Mayo Municipal District have already voted to rezone the site on Roman Island.

The site is currently zoned for marine related tourism and a material contravention was needed to rezone it.

Some 87 valid submissions were received from the public in respect of the material contravention with 62 objecting, 23 supporting it, while two were neutral.
