The annual test of the Emergency Blowdown system will take place at the Bellanaboy Bridge Gas Terminal today.
Shell E&P Ireland Limited say that during the test you can expect to see a flame from the flare.
This is the result of the combustion of the gas as the depressurisation activity progresses.
The company say flaring will be audible at high flow rates and say the conducting of the test poses no risk to the local community of the personnel working at the terminal.
The Terminal will commence start up activities on Friday September 14th and Saturday September 15th.
There may be intermittent flaring as the plant is restarting.
