There was widespread praise and congratulations at this week’s monthly meeting of Claremorris Municipal District for all the many people and agencies that had worked together to make the visit of Pope Francis to the district last month such a success.

Councillors spoke of their pride at how well the village of Knock and the Shrine looked, together with Ireland West Airport Knock, when the locations were being televised worldwide for the occasion.

Councillors agreed to send a letter of congratulations to the Archbishop of Tuam Dr Michael Neary and the Parish Priest of Knock Fr Richard Gibbons who they said played a pivotal role in enticing the Pontiff to include Knock on his visit to Ireland.

Kilkelly based Fianna Fail Councillor John Caulfield raised the matter saying the village looked wonderful on the day and that he said was the result of a lot of hard work by many.
