An Post should reconsider its decision to close the post office in Ballindine on Friday week, according to Mayo Fine Gael Senator Michelle Mulherin.
She has asked An Post to look at the decision again, as she says Ballindine is a busy post office, and the people of the area used it and want to continue to use it.
Instead, she says 150 pensioners are now being advised to go to Claremorris or to Miltown from August 10th to collect their pensions.
There is increasing concern in Ballindine about the closure of the post office. Listeners to Midwest News say they have been given very little notice that their post office is about to close, and say they did not expect its closure.
Senator Mulherin told Midwest News that the short notice is adding to people’s concern about this decision by An Post.
Midwest News has contacted An Post for a comment and we are awaiting a response.
