Up to a half a dozen landowners at Rosanrubble, between Newport and Westport, have their properties flooded with every high tide, since last year when a retaining boundary wall was washed away in a storm. That’s according to local Independent councillor Michael Holmes.
The councillor raised the plight of the farmers affected at the monthly meeting of West Mayo Municipal District earlier this week.
He told Midwest News today that he has now arranged for the landowners to meet council engineering staff to discuss possible solutions.
He said that extensive forestry is being destroyed by the salt water.
