A Galway Fianna Fáil councillor has sent a letter to his party colleagues in local authorities across the country seeking their support for Éamon Ó Cuív to run as a candidate in the Presidential Election.
Galway Councillor Ollie Crowe confirmed that he has written to all Fianna Fáil councillors in the country.
He believes Fianna Fail should run a candidate in the presidential election., and says Eamon O'Cuiv - grandson of former President Eamon DeValera - is the best elected candidate in the party.
Councillor Crowe claims 95% of councillors and grassroots members believe the party should contest the Presidential Election in the autumn.
Last month, Fianna Fáil TDs and Senators decided to endorse President Michael D Higgins at a parliamentary party meeting in Leinster House.
