A Mayo author has been longlisted for the 2018 Man Booker prize.

27-year old Sally Rooney, a native of Castlebar, is one of 13 writers whose books have been included in the longlist for the prestigious literary award.

Her debut novel "Conversations with Friends" was published last year to critical acclaim, while her second novel is due to be published shortly.

The longlist for the Man Booker prize includes 13 books - from 2 Irish writers, 6 UK writers, 3 from the US and two from Canada

The shortlist will be announced in September and the winner will be announced in October.

The winning author receives £50,000 and can also expect a boost in sales.
