Mayo County Councillors have requested a special meeting of the authority to discuss the decision to remove planning issues from the agenda of Municipal Districts.
This follows a directive issued earlier this year by the Minister for Housing & Local Government Eoghan Murphy.
The circular issued to city and county council chief executives said it was not appropriate for councillors to discuss planning issues at their meetings.
Many Mayo councillors are unhappy with the directive, and the elected members of Mayo County Council held a private meeting last night at Breaffy House Hotel to discuss the matter.
Midwest News understands that there was unanimous support for the decision to request a special meeting of Mayo County Council on July 30th to debate the decision to remove planning issued from the agendas of Municipal Districts across the county.
That request will now be forwarded to council management.
