Mayo County Councillors are due to hold a private meeting tonight to discuss the controversial directive that planning issues should not be discussed at county council or municipal district meetings, prior to a decision being made on a planning application.

Councillors have criticised the directive, which was issued by the Minister for Housing Eoghan Murphy in March, claiming they should be entitled to raise genuine concerns about planning matters at their meetings.
