The Route 64 Sligo to Galway bus went on fire yesterday evening at Charlestown.

An investigation is now underway into the cause of the blaze.

More than 40 passengers were evacuated from the bus.

It is reported that smoke was seen coming from the dashboard shortly before the bus arrived in Charlestown.

After the passengers disembarked, the area around the driver's seat caught fire, a window also shattered.

The blaze was brought under control by fire service personnel.

No one sustained any injuries during the incident.

The bus will be examined in detail over the next number of days to see, if as suspected, an electrical fault may have been the cause of the blaze
