Met Eireann has issued a status orange wind warning for counties Mayo, Galway,Sligo and Donegal this evening and overnight tonight.
South to southwest winds, associated with Storm Hector, will reach mean speeds of 65 to 80 km/hr with gusts of 110 to 125 km/hr possible.
The winds will be strongest in coastal areas, but not confined to these areas.
The official wind warning starts at 9pm this evening and stays in place till 10am tomorrow morning.
Meteorologist with Met Eireann Liz Walsh told Midwest News today that the storm force winds look set to coincide with high tide and so coastal flooding is also possible.
