A Mayo-based GP says reducing loneliness and isolation is a challenge, but is achievable.
Erris-based GP and Fianna Fail Senator Keith Swanick is Chairperson of the Loneliness Taskforce, which has today launched a report calling on the Government to invest €3 million euro annually to combat loneliness.
The report also recommends that loneliness be allocated to a specific Government Minister and Department, that a public campaign is undertaken, and that support is offered to organisations and initiatives that alleviate loneliness, as well as undertaking Irish research on the problem.
The Loneliness Taskforce was established by Dr Keith Swanick in collaboration with Sean Moynihan, CEO of ALONE, and their report was launched in Dublin this morning.
