Two men in their late teens were arrested yesterday following a robbery at Maugheraboy Post Office in Sligo town.

It's understood that two men, armed with knives, first tried to rob two people near the post office at about 2.30 yesterday afternoon.

They then entered Maugheraboy Post Office where they demanded money and quickly fled the scene to a nearby field.

Gardai, who were alerted by a local person, arrived at the scene within minutes and chased the men on foot, arresting both.

All the cash stolen in the raid was recovered and no-one was injured in the incident.

The two teenagers arrested were detained at Ballymote Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

Both have been charged and are due before Manorhamilton District Court later this morning.
