The removal of Vote No posters from poles in Foxford, Castlebar and Ballina areas over the weekend, is an attack on democracy. That’s the view of No campaigner in the upcoming Referendum on repealing the Eighth Amendment, Renua Mayo member Michael Farrington.
Over Sunday night into Monday morning a significant number of No posters appear to have been removed on purpose from poles across the county and the matter has been reported to the gardai.
The posters had been erected by various groups supporting the No campaign in the Referendum that will take place on Friday week. A number of the posters have since been discovered concealed in ditches and in alleyways.
In addition 4 large road sign billboards erected by Renua Mayo members on Sunday morning, ahead of the football match in Castlebar were also taken down.
Mr Farrington told Midwest News that he believes the action is reprehensible at this stage in the Referendum campaign.
