It’s disgraceful that you can’t get a doctor in the county town after 6 o’clock in the evening – that’s according to Castlebar-based Fianna Fail councillor Blackie Gavin.

Councillor Gavin says people needing medical assistance have to pass a centre of excellence in Castlebar to travel 12 miles out of the county town to bring someone to see Westdoc in the evenings.

He believes there should be a doctor based in the new primary care centre in Castlebar after 6pm in the evening, and says his council colleagues will raise this matter at the next meeting of the HSE Regional Forum.
