Irish Rail is currently reviewing security on Intercity train services, and says the safety of passengers and staff is a priority.
It follows two separate incidents in recent days on the Westport-Dublin train line.
The incidents occurred on Thursday evening near Claremorris, when the train driver and a young passengers were attacked by a male passenger, and on Saturday evening when four people were arrested following an incident on the Westport-Dublin train at Tullamore.
Jane Cregan, Irish Rail spokesperson, said they take such incidents of anti-social behavior very seriously, but such incidents are rare.
She told Midwest News that the company is currently in the process of recruiting onboard customer service agents for intercity services, and they hope to have an agent on each intercity service within months……
