One of the Orthopaedic operating theatres at Merlin Park hospital in Galway is tdue to reopen from today.
Two theatres were closed last September for structural repairs, leading to the cancellation of a number of surgical procedures since then.
Emergency surgeries and a small number of elective procedures have been carried out at University Hospital Galway in the interim, but there are concerns about waiting lists getting longer while the operating theatres are closed.
The HSE has confirmed to Midwest News that repair work was completed at the Merlin Park orthopaedic theatres in November, followed by some internal reconfiguration of one theatre, which is expected to be operational this week, while two new modular units with orthopaedic theatres are expected to be opened at Merlin Park later this year.
