A Louisburg petrol station has been targeted by thieves for a second time in a month.

In the early hours of  last Thursday morning an unsuccessful attempt was made to force open an ATM machine at the Corrib Oil filling station.

The thieves are said to have showed considerable expertise on both occasions in the manner in which they disabled CCTV and burglar alarms.

Its thought there  may be a connection between those involved and a gang who recently broke into Horkan's Garden Centre at Turlough, Castlebar, and stole a substantial sum of money.

Gardai in Westport have also reported a number of break-ins in recent weeks in the Rosbeg area of the town.
