The main road into the town of Newport from the Castlebar side, is increasingly dangerous for road users. That’s the view of local Independent councillor Michael Holmes.

The councillor raised local concerns about the stretch of road at this week’s monthly meeting of the West Mayo Municipal District.

He said the road  surface is riddled with potholes, its liable to flooding, the footpath needs to be extended and generally he outlined a situation where motorists and cyclists are all forced to move out over the white line along this section of road that is also busy with pedestrians.
