The consumption of alcohol in public areas of Ballyhanunis town, particularly in the Friary Grounds, and the potential for anti social behaviour as a result was highlighted by councillor John Cribben at this month’s meeting of Claremorris Municipal District.

He called for by-laws to be introduced to prevent the consumption of alcohol on the streets and in the Friary Grounds, as he says the Friary Grounds are a particularly popular recreational location for young and old, and there is a tendency for groups of youths to gather and consume alcohol in the location.

His motion was supported and the local authority will now begin the process of introducing the  necessary by-laws.
