“Don’t hurt the one you love” is the message contained in a Valentine’s card which will be distributed to students at the Mayo campus of GMIT this Wednesday.

Mayo County Council’s Road Safety Office is leading the campaign, which reminds young drivers to slow down, wear a seatbelt, and to refrain from using their mobile phone when driving.

Mayo Road Safety Officer Noel Gibbons says many young passengers become victims of road collision while driven by their boyfriends, and he wants this Valentine’s Day campaign to encourage young male drivers to keep their partners safe by driving carefully.

Liam Deasy, President of the GMIT Mayo Campus Student’s Union, says they will be distributing the Valentine’s cards to students this Wednesday….
