Mayo County Council is spearheading a new campaign, to encourage dog owners to act responsibly over dog fouling.

Residents associations, Tidy Towns groups and other community groups have raised concerns across the county about the incidents of dog fouling on footpaths and in other public areas.

Under this new campaign, all dog owners are being asked to “bag it and bin it”, and signs are being put in place in a number of areas – including Lough Lannagh in Castlebar – to remind dog owners to clean up after their dog.

The Cathaoirleach of the Castlebar Municipal District of Mayo Co Co, Councillor Martin McLoughlin has welcomed the initiative.
