One of the two remaining candidates seeking a Fianna Fail nomination for the Roscommon-Galway constituency has withdrawn, just a day ahead of the selection convention.

The Fianna Fail convention takes place in the Abbey Hotel in Roscommon tomorrow evening, and Ballinasloe-based Councillor Michael Connolly has now withdrawn his name.

That leaves just sitting TD Eugene Murphy, after two other candidates withdrew over the past week –Roscommon Councillor John Keogh and Sean Óg Higgins from Ballintubber.

Councillor Connolly told Midwest News he’s supporting the sitting TD Eugene Murphy, but would hope to be added to the party ticket at a later stage…
