There’s local interest in this year’s Oscars ceremony.

Cartoon Saloon have been nominated for animated feature - The Breadwinner.

The Kilkenny-based animation studio was co-founded by Boyle native Paul Young – the Roscommon man is also the company’s CEO.

This is a third Oscar nomination for Cartoon Salon.

Martin McDonagh’s movie “3 Blilboards Outside Ebbing Missouri” has also been nominated in a  number of categories – Martin’s mother is a native of Easkey in Co Sligo while his father is from Connemara.

Elsewhere, Irish actress Saoirse Ronan has been nominated for best actress for her role in Ladybird, while Daniel Day Lewis is shortlisted for Best Actor in the movie Phantom Thread.

Irish costume designer Consolata Boyle is nominated for Victoria and Abdul.

The Academy Awards will take place in Los Angeles on 4th March.
