The Minister for Mental Health Jim Daly is due to meet a deputation from Co Roscommon this evening at Leinster House to discuss the future of the Rosalie unit in Castlerea.
The Rosalie Unit at Naomh Chaolain accomodates elderly residents with Alzheimers disease and dementia.
There were concerns some years ago about the future of the unit, but these fears were allayed when then Minister of State for Health Kathleen Lynch assured a deputation that the unit would not close.
However, there are concerns locally that the HSE may be reneging on this promise, as there have been no new admissions to the Rosalie unit for the past year and a half.
Roscommon Fine Gael Senator Maura Hopkins has arranged today’s meeting, where Minister Daly will meet with HSE management, representatives of patients’ families and local public representatives.
