A Roscommon TD says alarm bells are ringing in relation to the future of the Rosalie Unit at Aras Naomh Chaolain in Castlerea.

Independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice was speaking after a meeting between a Roscommon deputation and Minister for Mental Health and Older People Jim Daly and HSE representatives last night in Leinster House last night.

The unit has capacity for 33 beds but there are now just twelve residents there, a figure which will be reduced to eleven in the coming weeks.

There have been no new admissions to the unit since September 2016, despite assurances given the previous year by the then Minister of State for Health Kathleen Lynch.
