There are 17 flooded location along the R312 Castlebar to Bellacorrick road at present, and most of these floods could be resolved immediately if the water tables and drains were opened by council staff. That’s the view of Erris based Fine Gael Cllr Gerry Coyle.
He showed 17 photos of flooding along the route to yesterday’s monthly meeting of Mayo county council and he called on council management to take immediate steps to rectify the problems.
The poor condition of the R312 road linking Erris to the county town is the subject of an ongoing local public campaign.
Proposed realignment work at Glenisland bridge along the road has been stalled as An Bord Pleanala is requiring additional information from Mayo county council at present.
