The Emergency Department at Mayo University Hospital is extremely busy at present with a high number of medical attendances.

The latest figures from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation show there are 27 patients on trolleys at the Castlebar based hospital today.

A spokesperson for the Hospital this evening told Midwest News that every effort is being made to provide beds for those patients awaiting admission.

All emergency cases will continue to be treated at Mayo University Hospital therefore they are asking people with genuine emergencies to go to the Hospital and they will be looked after.

However, they are also asking people whose circumstances are not urgent to consider using an alternative such as the family doctor.
