  • A body has been recovered in the search for a missing fisherman on Lough Mask.

    A search was launched for a the local man in his 70’s when he failed to return to shore earlier this month after going out on the lake earlier in the day. The man’s boat was recovered the morning after he went missing.

    Gardai in Claremorris confirmed to Midwest News this afternoon that a body has been found in the search operation.

    A number of local search and rescue bodies were involved in the operation. The body was recovered by the Grainne Uaile Search and Recovery team today. 

  • Funeral arrangements have been confirmed for the man who died while fishing on Lough Mask.

    The body of Sean Maloney of Church View, Ballinrobe was recovered on Saturday after an extensive search when he failed to return to shore after going out on the lake in early march.

    Sean’s remains will repose at Cummins Funeral Home, Ballinrobe on Wednesday evening from 5.30-7.30pm.

    His funeral Mass will take place on Thursday at 12 noon in St Mary’s Church with interment to Shannon crematorium afterwards.

     

  • A fisherman died when his boat overturned close to an island in south Connemara on yesterday afternoon.

     

    The body of the man, who is in his 60s and from the locality, was found close to Crow Island in Kilkieran Bay.

     

    The fisherman was alone on the boat when it overturned at about 4.30 pm yesterday.

    The alarm was raised and the man’s body was recovered by the RNLI and Coast Guard.

    He was taken by helicopter to University Hospital Galway where a postmortem is due to be carried out today.

    Gardai in Clifden are investigating.

     

  • A search is underway on Lough Mask again this morning after a fisherman failed to return to shore on Friday.

    The local man, who is believed to be in his 70’s and an experienced angler, is reported to have departed the Ballinrobe side of the lake at about 12 noon on Friday and the alarm was raised when he failed to return.

    The man’s boat was recovered yesterday. Gardai in Claremorris say weather conditions are hampering searches in the water today but searches of the shoreline and surrounding areas is ongoing.

    Gardai, the Lough Corrib Search and Rescue and local volunteers are involved in the operation.

    Gardai say that searches are underway in the Cushlough area of Claremorris for a man in his 70s who went out on his boat yesterday.

    Gardai and the Lough Corrib Search and Rescue are involved in the operation today.
