Cllr Cyril Burke

  • A Castlebar Councillor has called for sheltered areas and lighting to be installed around Lough Lannagh.

Cllr Cyril Burke made the call following a walk in memory of the late Brendan Heneghan, a former town councillor.

Cllr Burke says there were showers on the day and he took note that there weren’t sheltered spots. He says there is also no lighting from the cemetery right up to Lough Lannagh.

He says it is important this situation is addressed so that Lough Lannagh can be utilised to its maximum potential.

  • The new €270m euro N5 road that will connect Castlebar to Westport looks set to be open to traffic in about four years time.

That’s according to Castlebar based Fine Gael Councillor Cyril Burke.

The Councillor says Transport infrastructure Ireland (TII) confirmed recently to a delegation of Mayo County Councillors that 4 contractors have been shortlisted for the construction contract and the preferred contractor should be selected and ready to begin work on the road from June of next year.
